A savoury improvisation.

Since becoming a homeowner-slash-neverending-DIY-renovator, I’ve become a design blog junkie.  I cumulatively spend more time looking at blogs like this, this, this, this and this than I do on Facebook.  So, needless to say, I was pretty darn excited to check out this year’s Interior Design Show.

Luckily, we’re nearing the “almost finished, for real” mark with our house so it was easy to admire, say, these delicate glass tiles without overtly flipping out at the price tag (a mere $65 per square foot).  However, if we were on the other end of the chop saw, it’d definitely be a different story (one certainly fraught with disappointment and sighs of compromise).

In any case, it definitely made me wish I’d spent more time woodworking in my grade 8 Industrial Arts class.

Oh and if I wasn’t a photographer or an aspiring aspiring writer, I’d really like to design lighting.  Like this:

I also have a thing for chalkboards, large-scale diagrams and drawings.  So I took a little snap from the giant chalkboard-painted walls that bordered the spacious Montauk Sofa display.  (Wow, are those chairs ever comfy!)

Sadly, I didn’t take many photos but still, it was an inspiring and surprising way to spend a Sunday.

Looking up while I’m looking at them, for lack of a better title.

I’ve got a not-so-little-anymore niece who lives a few thousand miles away in Edmonton.  She turned 10 in November but said it still feels like she’s 9.  We don’t see each other very often.

Last summer, we hatched a plan to still have fun and play, despite the distance.  And I’m so glad we did.

Together, page by page, we are filling in a little book with letters and drawings.  Every so often, it’ll go from Edmonton to Toronto to Edmonton and back again.  Slowly earning more smudged fingerprints and glitter glue as it goes along.  A few pages back, she drew me a picture and I coloured it in.  And now I’m doing the same for her.

It’s not the same as playing patty-cake in person but she’s probably too big for that now anyway.

Favourite squirrel, number 2.

In less than a month, Jeans managed to destroy and even disembowel her little squirrel toy.  It was both funny and mildly terrifying to watch.  But she loves it so we got her another one.

Wonder how long this guy’ll last.
